OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR
LADIES ALTAR SOCIETY
The Altar Society consists of members from the parishioners of OLPS. The officers consist of a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. The Pastor is the Spiritual Director of the group.
The purpose of the Altar Society is to promote true Christian charity, the love of God and of our neighbor, and Christian family life.
More specifically, to foster love for the House of God and to labor for its proper adornment and cleanliness. That includes but not limited to:
• To promote frequent attendance at Mass and the reception of Holy Communion, especially the
Mass for the intention of living and deceased members.
• To take care of the immediate needs of the altar, sanctuary, and sacristy including but not limited to sewing and laundering the altar linens, albs, vestments. As well as other furnishings and needs of the Church. This work is done on a weekly basis by members, who are known as God’s Little Housekeepers, and members of other designated committees.
• To provide flowers or plants for the adornment of the Church, as deemed suitable or necessary, after consultation with the Pastor. The committee shall also be responsible for the care of all live plants used in the Church (watering, feeding, etc.).
• Three times a year, the Altar Society shall enlist the help of all parishioners for a thorough general cleaning of the entire Church: (1) during the week before Confirmation, (2) upon completion of decorating for Christmas, and (3) upon completion of decorating for Easter.
• The Society is also a part of the Annual Fall Fun Fest by having bingo and a bake sale which brings in most of our money to be able to take care of the Church.
The general membership meets at least four times a year, including the annual meeting held in May. Special meeting of the general membership may be called by the president if deemed necessary.
The benefits of membership are:
• One Mass shall be offered each month, usually on First Saturday, for all living and deceased members of the Altar Society.
• The stipends for the Masses are paid from the treasury of Altar Society.
